Christ-ist Living Series Week one: “Do Not Litter”

Hey Everybody,
Christ-ist Living Series
Week one: “Do Not Litter”

I’ve decided to do a weekly series I’m calling “Christ-ist Living.”  What is this “Christ-ist” word you are using, Shawn?  Well let me tell you.

The word “Christian” doesn’t exactly describe us.  That word has gotten so convoluted and given some really inaccurate meaning when compared with the behaviors by so many who call themselves Christians.  Yes, perhaps I’m judging, but that would be very “Christian” of me, wouldn’t it?  :}  But it’s not Christ-ist.

I’m certain that originally the ones who called themselves Christians had intended it as a way to follow the Jesus Christ teachings.  Let’s remember, however, Jesus didn’t know the word “Christ.”  He was just trying to get and stay in a heaven consciousness by thinking, saying and doing what he knew to be the right thing in his understanding of God.

In this first week of the series I’m focusing on littering.  One might say, “Shawn, with all that is going on in this world right now, why would you worry about litter?”

Let me tell you…I won’t say I’m “worried” about litter but I have concerns about the unconsciousness of littering.  When we litter, we usually aren’t paying attention and that leads to greater unconsciousness.  Some litter on purpose and treat themselves with an “I don’t care about you” attitude.  “So what, somebody else will clean it up.”  But what if they don’t?  And…what if one day, your house or car or life becomes the trash dump?  Clearly your mind is already cluttered with waste that has not been prayerfully deposited where it ought to go.

Sometimes we drop a small piece of paper from our pocket and we see it…and then we leave it there as if it doesn’t matter.  We walk away and our world is trashed because we don’t care about ourselves and each other.  “Oh come on, Shawn, it was a tiny bit of paper, so what!!!?”  Imagine millions of tiny scraps of paper falling all over your life.  Imagine it getting into the inner workings of your electronics and your car and your life.  Worst of all, imagine that tiny piece of paper that you unconsciously dropped and left there is the thing that keeps you from praying today.

Is your litter what is keeping the world sick, afraid, and unaware that they are loved with an everlasting love?

Now, you might be one of the few who never, ever litters.  You are conscientious about every piece of trash no matter how big or how small.  How are you at helping others who haven’t reached your level of knowing yet?  Are you kindly helping them when they litter?  Or are you resenting them?

Please know that I know how hard all of this is.  It can be really difficult to stay awakened in our God consciousness and love each other in spite of our nasty, petty behaviors.

In Christ-ist living we are laying down our unconsciousness because we have already picked up our God-consciousness.  Pay attention this week.  Affirm frequently, “The Christ in me is awake now.”  Notice the difference and watch how quickly we eradicate anything unlike God.
